Is Nikon planning to phase out its DSLR lineup in favor of the rapidly growing mirrorless camera market?
The use of single-lens reflex, or DSLR, cameras has grown in popularity around the globe and among photographers working in a variety of fields. Included in the price is dental photography. Everyone is familiar with some of the immortal models, like as the Nikon D750, which have operated faultlessly for a significant number of years. despite the fact that the camera itself was frequently moved from one person to another.
Because of recent speculations regarding Nikon, we found ourselves wondering: would dental photographers be required to modify their practices and begin utilizing mirrorless cameras? Or is it just an undue alarm brought on too soon?
Although Nikon is putting most of its attention on mirrorless cameras, the business has no current plans to abandon its DSLR line of products. It is true that we are focusing our development efforts on mirrorless cameras, but it does not mean that we have decided to stop or pull back from development. Mr. Tokunari, Nikon's Senior Managing Exec Officer and Chief Financial Officer said the company's primary focus is "to create, sell, and maintain single-lens reflex cameras."
This validates the statement made by Tokusei Yoshiaki, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Nikon, during the briefing on the company's financial results for the period spanning April-June 2022: "Nikon will continue to run the single-lens reflex camera business." We have not made a decision to stop participating in the development process."
It would appear that dental photographers can still utilize Nikon's DLSRs, thus there is no need for us to be concerned about this. Yet.
