Canon proves it one more: DSLRs are not extinct

You may expect it year after year, but be patient. If we weren't convinced before, we are now, since Canon says conclusively: DLSRs are alive and well, and you can work with them as a dentistry photographer.

Canon still controls a third of the camera market, selling as many as 1.8 million digital SLRs last year! And, of course, Canon outsells everyone else.

Why would anybody believe that the DSLR era has come to an end? During the most recent CP+ event, no new models were unveiled. Yet there's a simple answer to it.

"CP+ is a venue to introduce new items, so you won't see many DSLRs this year." Of course, hybrids are the attention of all firms. Nonetheless, SLRs continue to account for 30% of global sales. It means there is always a need for this range, and Canon manufactures most DSLRs sold worldwide.

"There are also many lenses designed for the DSLR environment." We don't see an abrupt end to SLRs or a rapid shift to hybrids. Undoubtedly, there will be a gradual drop, but demand remains high, according to Go Tokura, general manager of Canon's Imaging Division.

Curiously, as we can see, Canon now distinguishes three camera types: mirrorless, hybrid, and DSLRs. And the latter is still fighting.
