Why did I include the Godox MF12 Small Macro Flash in my Dental Macro Photography gear?
There are just a few specialized real Macro flashes on the market.
It's generally dual flashes, ring flashes, or the conventional on/off camera speedlite with a diffuser.
Godox has introduced a new Macro flash that is very adaptable, and modular, and promises to be a genuine breakthrough.
In the past, the company offered a broad selection of powerful flash flashes with capabilities that were generally only seen on much more costly items. and some cost-effective flashes too.
The new MF12 Macro Flash complements the range wonderfully, and its flexibility allows it to be utilized in various ways.
Let's start with what makes the Godox MF12 unique and what differentiates it from the competition, particularly in Macro Photography.
THE FIRST IMPRESSION AND THE CONTENTS
The MF12 is packaged in a cubic nylon travel box with a zipper. It is strong and holds everything in two compartments.
All of the extras, including the flash, are of good quality and feel fantastic.
The craftsmanship is excellent: everything fits precisely, there is no wobbling, and threads and screws are made of metal rather than plain plastic.
THE MF12 MICRO MACRO FLASH MODULAR SYSTEM'S UNIQUE AND INNOVATIVE FEATURES
The MF12 is a single-unit flash as well as a component of a modular system.
Up to six MF12 flash units may be clipped onto the lens adapter, creating a ring of flashes around the lens axis.
One or more MF12 may be shot wirelessly when used in conjunction with a Radio Trigger (such as the Godox XPro, X1, or X2).
Since it is such a little and compact flash, it combines a variety of functions that you would not anticipate from it.
LIGHTING FOR MODELING
The modeling light of the MF12 may be activated by pushing a simple button.
For general usage, this is an excellent tool for determining the real flash illumination in the final photograph.
In terms of macro photography, it may illuminate a subject in low-light situations or even serve as a focusing light.
It's effectively a torchlight, which is a nice little bonus given you already have the flash.
FLEXIBILITY
After some shooting, I really appreciate the Mf12's versatility. The combination of characteristics for a wide range of conceivable applications makes it very adaptable.
Apart from being the primary light source, it may also be utilized for other lighting circumstances such as rim or backlighting.
You may combine numerous units by mounting it on the lens filter ring.
Even a single flash may be positioned in a variety of ways.
You don't even need a flash stand to achieve this because of the adjustable clip.
SYNOPSIS AND CONCLUSION
When I initially heard and read about the MF12 (in the multi-unit form), I assumed it was just another multi-unit macro flash, that would be too near to the subject, would be too tiny using a single unit - well, I just could not see any logic for yet another flash system on the market.
But I was mistaken!
The MF12 is so flexible and can be used in so many different ways and scenarios that it has quickly become one of my favorite additions to my flash kit.
With features like the modeling lamp, a USB-chargeable internal battery, a tiny size, and wireless control choices, it is the ideal partner and complements Dental photography especially anterior region and extraoral photography.
Since the MF12 Flash is so compact and portable, it is a very versatile tool. And it can be mounted with light brackets for example (fixlite) it's totally recommended for dental photography
